  1. Was that The Elbow Room Kev - Bert took us in there a coupla weeks back. I had a great burger and the beer was good. Yes - that was it: sadly opted for a liquid dinner (nothing that a McBrekkie and can of Coke isn't sorting out this morning).
  2. Without wanting to get too evangelical about it: if you're remotely unsure about John solo, do yourself a favour and get to one of these gigs absolutely brilliant last night not a duff tune in the set; very supportive audience; very relaxed band; fantastic. PS it was also £9.90 for six bottles of Bud in that pool bar before hand: credit crunch drinking - great!
  3. 9-30ish, played for about an hour and a quater I think. Thanks, Steve - and for the review. I wonder how many will be in there tonight, to be honest... Looking forward to it, though.
  4. What time did he come on?
  5. Wife's finally clocked that whatever I do will need doing again by someone who knows what they're doing still get chippy comments - but better that than three hours sweating over a flat-pack, some half-baked instructions and an ill-fitting allen key You have just about nailed it there mate Anyone know how to stick a kitchen unit door on the front of a dishwasher? I thought 10 minute job - I don't know what way round to hold the instructions...ahh well I've got until September to sort it... best bit is I went into stalling it mode one year: haven't got the right screws/ hammer/ drill/ steps... so 12 months later we'd got a fully tooled-up shed - and I'm still "dog-hopeless*" *source: Mrs Mac - more times than I care to remember

  7. Didn't pick up on these initially: but as I remember it, Songs of the Free was massive, at least in that little HMV on Lord Street, so bought it then (on the strength of the display in the window) and still like it enough to have picked up the cd reissue a year or so ago. We Live as we Dream, Alone - Gang of Four Title cribbed from Joseph Conrad (I think), btw , Tom
  8. kinell - Diesel 10's claw's got nothing on that
  9. I'm laying off the Stella, after the King's gig...
  10. bollocks, Vinni - I've met Drummond, and you're not him: are you Balfe with a haircut?
  11. Alright, Vinni - time you coughed, actually: what were you, doing, with whom, in Liverpool in 1979?
  12. Watching yer weight, Jotter, lad?
  13. No Sugar? Oh, Gavin, no, no, no... Nice big sugar in to get the full expresso double-bubble
  14. Yep, there's a 12" single, which I have somewhere. I don't think Scala did anything else. The standout is "Wiping A Tear From The All Seeing Eye" - do you have that? Brilliant, it is. I'm a bit of a Be Bop/Bill freak and have lost count of the albums and CDs I have by him. He's very prolific. Very. Check out this. Yes, Si - that's it: there's a second Scala track on there as well, which is also very good. though he's been around for years, the first real exposure to Bill Nelson I had was his parts on David Sylvian's "Gone to Earth" (1986-ish): which led me to buy the Best of, and a (albeit long after the event, but remembering hearing about it at the time) Be Bop Deluxe LP. THe best of suffers from what Micvee dislikes about Besty of's: way too varied, so I'm still struggling to find a way into "mainstream" (ha ha) Bill Nelson. Still, it took time with Brian Eno, but eventually paid of...
  15. On one of the Bill Nelson "Best of's" there's a track attributed to (I think) "Scala", which was great - but I've never been able to track down anything else by them - any one on here (Si/ Mogga) know anything?
  16. that was a cracker, that one: I always assumed they were cockneys
  17. Arioch Err... that's not real........ is it?
