  1. Anecdote of the year so far, Joe, lad!
  2. Alright, Dom, give us some background on yourself, then. Welcome. Sorry; should have said that set-list was by Dom, not Jacques. Jacques just added to it.

  4. As Jacques mentioned, Gus telling all the chatterboxes (who clearly thought that John was there just to provide some background to whatever verbal bollocks they were spouting) to shut up, was fantastic. They shit themselves. But first . . . . A small Shacknet crew congregated in a Liverpool city-centre boozer; Mags, Chairman Johans (and son Daniel), James, Jacques and Yours Truly, before heading up to the excellently-appointed little venue 'Static', by that bombed-out St Luke's Church. John, himself - who had earlier been part of the posse - said that he would be on around 9.00pm, so, it was with some surprise, that by 9.15 he still hadn't even arrived at his own gig! Standing outside in the evening sun, we spotted a lone - but unmistakeable figure - trudging up the road. JH was greeted with a volley of good-natured heckles, as he smiled his apologies, and went in to 'prepare'. Think he finally took to the stage at around 9.45, and played a beautiful set (as listed by Dom, above), broken only by Joe's aforementioned intervention, and John checking his texts and even answering a call! As usual, my own highlight was 'Cornish Town' (still, to these ears, the greatest song ever written), but '1967' and 'Metro' are now running it close. The Maybes? were superb, too. How tight are this band? And the scenes that played out in the audience, as they concluded with a 15-minute version of 'Promise', had to be seen to be believed. A stunning conclusion to a cracking set. Ending on a slightly negative note, there was - again - a dearth of Shack fans present (it seemed to me). Hopefully, more of us will be in evidence when John next plays - with his band this time - at The Bluecoat on 9th July.
  5. He was excellent. Played solo for the first part then was joined by a woodwind and a double bass player for the second half. The setlist was: Carousel, Metro, Borderline, Revolution, River, Beautiful, Cornish Town, Carnival, Miles Apart, Crocodile, New Day, 1967, Butterfly, Not Afraid, Too Late He played twice in Manchester over the weekend so he's now up to a grand total of four solo shows. Definitely worth catching if you get the chance ( We filmed it for him so I'll give you a shout when the films readyif you want, soundboard audio too). Bloody hell Clarky, well done! UPDATE Still be a week or two before the films ready , waiting for the audio to be engineered should make a nice boot in its own right. Really nice bloke as well JH can see why he would attract such a devoted audience tho' it's quite surreal when the audience stand stock still and silent during each song but they make up for it in between. Ooh, nice one Clarky. Unfortunately, there were a quite a few chatterers at the back during the songs. Still, it was a great night. You and Vinni were missed. Next time, eh?! ps Here's Andy and Simon doing their (other) thing in The Wizards Of Twiddly: (Dedicated to all the big gobs at gigs...! Grrrr!) They did quieten down after Big G went and had a word though... I followed Gordon (and psycho Gus, in fairness), in case he needed - ahem - 'back up'. Turned out it was all girls on a birthday night out. To a John Head gig? We still beat them up mind. That'll teach them to talk during 'Butterfly'.
  6. Great to see everyone enjoying themselves...Made-up for yer Gord, all that traveling you do to that team of yours, kinda reminds me of the toffees...shite one week, crap the next boring the next - then a win Ta for the dance Anna, I think I was about to toe stamp someone... Big thankyou to Tony for getting me home safely and Gra' and Ste' for puttiing up with my constant gabbing about shite as usual (although I nearly fucked it up by tripping over the seat belt getting out of the car ) John was on top form as were Andy and Simon. Mick did us all proud and there were a few new converts picked up along the on that great ship called...Beautiful Moments. xxx Er, it's 'Dave', Joe. *walks off, bruised* Gordon, when that 81st minute goal came over the air, in Jeff Stelling's atmospheric studio, I punched the air with delight. Great to catch up with you Friday, big fella. You were on form though, Steve. John was delighted with your feedback on '1967' when you spoke to him. His grin lit up that room, as you were explaining why it was so great.
  7. Thanks for the set list (see thread below), Anna. You moved like lightning for that, once the final note had been strummed! Just to reprise, again for ease, . . . . . Carousel, Metro, Borderline, Revolution, River, Beautiful, Cornish Town, Carnival, Miles Apart, Crocodile, New Day, 1967, Butterfly, Not Afraid, Too Late. Well, what can I say? Unbelievable he was. A packed venue, and a big shout-out to Mick from Brum, who got the thing on. The Liverpool mob (Gus, Johans, Jacques and Yours Truly) got home at 4.00am, following a John / Shacknet / The 'Crew' (alright Skinny) / John Cooper Clarke (yes!) after show. In fact, it needs a full review, so I'll post something later. Great, as ever, to see the Shacknet posse, and those going to Manchester are in for a treat. Morning all.
