The final track-listing for the Waterpistol album was determined by Marina on it’s eventual release in 1995. Prior to this the band had their own ideas on how the record should be packaged and presented including it’s running order. There was a plan that the record was to be longer than the actual final released version (a possible double-album was considered) including tracks like “I Know You Well”, “Al’s Vacation”, “Feel No Way”, “UP”, “X DJ Ace”, “She’s Home Saturday”, “Irish” & “Elizabethan Radio Star”. And so during endless hours of traveling between gigs and recording sessions, the band would while away the boredom by scribbling out ideal track listings for the next record on scraps of paper that were lying around at the time. To tie in with this, we are also exclusively sharing a previously unheard version of “Undecided” from the later sessions at Chapel studios in Lincolnshire. I Know You Well (part) Recorded directly from the soundboard. Donated by : Andrew Erskine. A lively performance of the band showcasing early live versions of many of the songs that would become Waterpistol.
A surefire blood relation of the family Zilch with its “John Kline” bits and its Broudie bobs, “Room In a Circle” chimes along to Mick’s 12-string acoustic guitar, John’s arpeggio Rickenbacker and a jabbering drum machine. It is a track that never really followed the path of many others from cassette to digital – possibly due to the poor quality of those recordings in circulation. But here we have it, for the very first time, a shiny box-fresh version for your time-ravaged lug holes. Enjoy. Download: Shack – “Room In A Circle” (unreleased recording circa 1988/89)

Have you got different expectations? Or was there something you wanted from me? Or maybe desperation That made you treat my door so affectionately Could be pacification I’d love to love my nation Don’t give me realizations Don’t give me expectation For years the Fry’s Chocolate poster above has been fixed to the wall of the Everyman Bistro in Liverpool and is what gave Mick some of the inspiration for the lyrics for “Realization” off Zilch. The following clip is from Jérôme de Missolz‘s “You’ll Never Walk Alone” documentary from 1992:
