I'm shocked at a new "Things I.....At The Moment" topic.

Should've been "Things I'm Shacked By At The Moment"

I am shocked at the news that Julian Cope is palying at the Carling Academy on 12 Sept '08.
...with "Arch Wierdo" Pete Burns as support.... whats that all about?
The Mystery Girls getting back together...?
It doesn't have the same resonance as The Pale Fountains reforming.

Ticets available via the usual outlets.

I think it was the original.

There's a ropey version that someone's pulled off the radio here.

Shockingly, Cass does not feature Danny Dyer.

According to the article in Saturday's Guardian Guide, Glasvegas are under thirty. Actually, I'm not shocked by this, I'm incredulous. I just plain don't believe it. Why do all bands have to lie about their age these days? The geezer who sings is at least 35 and the drummer could easily be fifty. Ridiculous bloody charade. Youth in bands is overrated anyway- the vast majority of bands in their teens are absolute shit. Most bands don't get to be any good until they're at least 25.

Ditto everyone I know who is in a signed band. One fella in particular was two and a half years older than me when I first met him, but is now two years my junior.

Can we not just have an amnesty? All bands declare their real ages and we'll say no more about it.

By the by I think Glasvegas are brilliant, but part of what I like about them is that they are clearly all at least 45.

Glasvegas will rise and fall quicker than you can shout Alan McGee. The whole greasy biker look is frankly ridiculous, the songs try to ape Spector / JAMC in a fairly unimaginative way, the lyrics attempt to be subversive but are just sentimental tosh, but by far and away the worst thing about them is the singer's voice. He must have heard that singing in a regional accent is the latest thing, but this guy makes The Proclaimers sound like Noel Coward. They have perhaps the worst name in musical history, and they are an embarassment to a scottish music scene that has produced so many fantastic bands. I am shocked that nobody else can recognise this.
