I've only heard from Coles Corner onwards, really enjoying the new album.

I see he has two albums before coles corner plus a lengthy EP, do they sound similar to what he's doing now? & more importantly, they any good?

I've got everything he's done bar the EP.

Late Night Final, the first LP, is fantastic and for me up there with Cole's Corner. Not as musically lush as Cole's Corner and with a bit of a sadder feel to it but well worth getting. Second album, Lowedges, is alright but the songs aren't as strong as Cole's Corner or Late Night Final.

When I lived in Sheffield I used to work at the Cole's mentioned in Cole's Corner, until it finally changed its name to John Lewis. Then they sacked me. The cunts. It's not far from what was Scargill's HQ in the miners' strike, now a Lloyds Number One. Viva the revolution.

They're all brilliant, some more than others.

Late Night Final is the best in my humble opinion.

'Truelove's Gutter' is a late contender for album of the year. Absolutely beautiful record, and i'm pleased to say avoids the Shakin Stevens-isms of the last one. Can't wait for the gig a week today.

Never heard of Richard Hawley until he was mentioned on here a while back

With Shacknet on most occasions you could be scrolling past either the greatest band in the world or one the best songs ever written

Information overload springs to mind

Read briefly over his Wikipedia site... Played in Pulp... not a good start

Then had a listen on his myspace... fucking hell (sorry for swearing) his tunes are boss

'Open up your door' is special

Sounds a bit like Jens Lekman in parts or he sounds him

I'm in... Album on Saturday, Philharmonic Hall on the 17th

Richard Hawley where've ya been all me life (tucked away in 'album of the day') that's where

That opening couplet on the first tune sets an impeccably high standard that he keeps to for the rest of the record. As good it as it is I'm not that keen on the dramatic crashes of instrumentation on some songs, which you just know are coming. They're just a little too over the top and the songs don't need them.

I've listened to Lowedges a few times since I said it was a bit weaker and it isn't. It's beautiful.

Been listening to Late night Final a lot recently top LP.....it soundtracked a gloomy cross country trip to Leicester to see Camera Obscura - traffic was grim so cut across from holmes Chapel over the tops to the M1 and down to Leicester.

Run for Me on Lowedges is an absolute belting tune - his best I think

Gonna get the new one tonight on me way back from work

I suppose it's kind of "dark" but I find it hypnotic rather than gloomy

The new one is brilliant although the vinyl costs around £25, comes with a free cd of the album (pointless) and a book (no thanks). It's also double vinyl which means with 8 tracks, albeit some are rather lengthy, you'll be turning it over every two tracks. Why????? Surely he'd sell more with a standard gatefold sleeve, single disc, throw the book in if you like with a free download of the album rather than a cd, sell it for £12-15.

Cole's Corner is great. I love "Open Up Your Door" but the missus says it's depressing. Don't forget he's on Spotify too.
